How to use the Respondus LockDown browser with UF

Respondus monitor can be used together with the Respondus lockdown Browser to record students taking online exams. Using a webcam and microphone, the browser records all details of the exam session, including any errors, so that instructors can review the results. This technology is used in many education systems including Blackboard and Canvas. This video shows how to set up and configure the Respondus monitor. Once you've set it up, you can view the screen via the webcam.

Respondus LockDown Browser Installation

Respondus LockDown browser requires administrative privileges. If you are using a computer that is not your own, be sure to check the system requirements before installing the software. Click the Download Installer link to download Respondus LockDown browser. Click on "Run" or the "File Download Inst" button to select the file, and then run the installation. After the installer finishes installing the software close all other programs, except the Internet connection.

Next, click "Install” on the lockdown web browser installation page. You should see a box asking for your password. Click "Submit." Once you click "submit," Respondus will begin testing the software. It is impossible to close the program without clicking on the Finish button. After passing the test, you'll be presented with a confirmation message. Click "OK" in order to confirm the installation. Once Respondus lockdown browser has been installed successfully you can begin testing it.

Configuring the Respondus Monitor

After you have installed Respondus LockDown browser, you can set the Monitor up to record from your webcam. This will let you see the results of students and instructors without needing to be present in person. Set a password to secure your webcam. After that, you can launch the Respondus Monitor. You can skip the Advanced Settings section for LockDown Browser configurations and move on to Configuring your Respondus Monitor.


You can configure the Respondus Monitor to be used in an upcoming exam by logging into your LockDown browser and selecting the "Proctored” option. This option is only available for exams delivered by University Testing Centers. This option requires a LockDown Web Browser. The proctor needs to have an exam access key. You can then proceed to step 2 if you are able and willing to give the password to your proctor.

Respondus LockDown Browser allows you to take an exam

Respondus Browser, a software application that UF uses to administer quizzes or exams, is used by UF. You can't access this tool through any standard browser. To take an exam, you will need to open the Respondus LockDown browser on your computer. After logging in with your myUTRGV credentials are complete, you can open the Respondus LockDown Web Browser on your computer to navigate to the test.

You can install LockDown Browser by visiting the Chrome webstore and downloading the extension. The Respondus Monitor is required to be enabled. Make sure your device has a working internetcam before you install the extension. Follow the instructions to make sure your webcam works with Respondus LockDown Browser.

If your college or university uses LockDown browser, you can use the webcam feature for your exam. First, open the browser to set up the quiz and then enable Respondus Monitor. After you've set up the quiz in the browser, you can now use the webcam and take the exam. The instructor will be able to see your face through the webcam and give you video evidence. You can then use the webcam during the exam to answer questions.

You will need to present identification documents during the exam. Click on "Environment Check" to capture the environment in which the exam is being taken. 'Facial Detection Check" checks if the student’s face is visible within the camera's frame. To enable the microphone, you will need to follow all the instructions in the Support Guide.
